How to automate social posting with Make
If you publish the same video to several platforms, most of the work is copying titles, captions and files around. A Make scenario can do that copying for you while you keep control of what goes out.
1. Start with a content sheet
Create a Google Sheet with one row per post: date, platform, caption, media link (e.g. a Google Drive file), and a status column (draft / approved / posted). The status column is your safety switch: the automation only touches rows marked approved.
2. Build the scenario
- Trigger: a scheduled Google Sheets “Search rows” module that runs every hour and filters for
status = approvedanddate ≤ now. - Get the file: a Google Drive “Download a file” module using the media link.
- Router: one route per platform, each with a filter on the platform column.
- Publish: use the platform’s official module (for example YouTube “Upload a video” or Instagram for Business “Create a Reel”). Each one asks you to connect your own account through the platform’s OAuth screen.
- Update the row: write posted and the returned post URL back to the sheet.
3. Test safely
Upload to YouTube as private first, run the scenario once with “Run once”, and check the execution log. Only switch to public once a few runs look right.
4. Keep it within the rules
- Only connect accounts you own or manage with permission.
- Respect each platform’s posting limits and disclose sponsored or affiliate content in the caption.
- Add an error handler (e.g. email yourself) so a failed upload doesn’t go unnoticed.
Watch your operation count in Make’s dashboard: a scenario that runs hourly and finds nothing still uses a small number of operations.
